A nice note from Elinor & Ed - Jan 2016
Aloha Les, Bud, Marv,
We just wanted to let you know how much we loved our trip to Maui and the Maui Oceanfront Marathon! It was a great experience to run a race in Hawaii. It is something we have wanted to do for a long time! We enjoyed the aid stations (and have voted for our favorite), we were rewarded during the race by seeing at least 2 whales breaching (donít see that during our other races), and walking into the ocean for post race recovery was heaven!
We liked the medals, bibs, shirts, finisherís certificates, and photos. After reviewing options, we decided to take advantage of the special travel package you offered at the Royal Lahaina Resort. We were SO happy with this package. The accommodations were beautiful and the view from our room was stunning!! We loved the quiet location - away from the bustle of Lahaina, but close enough to get to town for restaurants or shopping. Plus, we loved being able to walk to Whalers Village.
After visiting the Wailea area, we were even more thankful that we stayed at the Royal Lahaina. We enjoyed many breakfasts on the hotel terrace overlooking the ocean. And the variety of food offered on the buffet was perfect. We were lucky to see a whale breaching close to shore one morning and a spectacular rainbow another morning. We also discovered POG and found that we could get free POG juice in place of the free Mai Tiaís in the evening. I think it was a happy substitution for everyone!
We wanted to do a whale watching dinner cruise and a luau and it was so convenient for it to be part of the package. We thoroughly enjoyed both. We saw lots of whales on the cruise, enjoyed the dinner, and had a blast trying to get to shore on a pretty wavy evening! The luau food was excellent and entertainment was top notch and we were happy to be able to walk to the event (no worries about driving or parking). And the other details like valet parking and the lei greeting at the airport just rounded out an excellent experience.
We had to extend our stay on Maui by one day because of the blizzard that hit the east coast on Friday Jan 22. As our friends and family were plowing and shoveling, it was hard to dredge up any sympathy for our predicament! Of all the places to get stuck, this was about the best!
Mahalo for making this a memorable race and a great and hassle free vacation experience!
Sincerely, Elinor and Ed, Kingsport, Tn
is a snowy month in much of our county and flights to/from Hawaii can
cancel or be delayed by storms.
1. We recommend you include TRAVEL INSURANCE for trip delay on all January travel plans
2. We recommend you plan to arrive Maui at least 2-3 nights before the Oceanfront Marathon. It is possible a big storm could delay arrival and you certainly don't want to miss sign-in on the day before in Lahaina.
